Kavita Vyas mentorship program was developed in honor of our beloved Kavita. Kavita was our first mentor, when we were just volunteering through our sheer sense if responsibility and did not even have a formal organization. Through her kind, enthusiasm and positive energy with empathy, she was able reach each child with her beautiful smile. Unfortunately, she was taken from us too early.
But this mentorship program helps us share her wisdom. After forming formal non-profit Setu International Foundation, as a bridge to empower individual. Mentor helps individual child grow, often offering two way communication to improve clarity. Our goal of this program is to bring clarity and awareness through open two way communications,
which will help each child reach their optimal potential. Mentorship relationships are built through personal connections, classes, and web based communication.
Educators helps support growth, provide source of knowledge, help set goals that are achievable. Maintain accountability, encouragement and motivation. Mentor willing to listen, offer constructive feedback, and provide positive guidance.
Through this program we encourage children to develop socio-emotional skills, growth mindset, and uncover Interests. Helping with self-esteem, which increases self-confidence, reduces anxiety, promotes resilience, enhances creativity, through socio-emotional learning.
We encourage discussion on different emerging & future technologies, global Issues, career pathways, consequential thinking, sense of global community, improve communication skills through debates, creative problem solving, critical thinking skills, digital literacy, leadership skills and decision making skills.
We encourage discussion on emotional awareness and regulation. Our mentors are professional volunteers ranging from physicians, engineers, teachers, professional from different background and nationality.

Improvement in Academic performance and behaviour in traumatic subjects through Psychotherapy
Psychological trauma or mental trauma is an emotional response to a distressing event or series of events, such as accidents, crime, rape or natural disasters.
Longer-term reactions include unpredictable emotions, flashbacks, difficulties with interpersonal relationships, multitudes of physical symptoms ( headaches, nausea etc) and memory loss.
to those experiencing trauma does not end.
It becomes part of their daily lives-endless visceral reminder of their terror. Dr Bessel Van der Kolk, one of the world’s Psychiatrist expert in Trauma, believes holistic methods should include body and soul, in order to rewire brain and provide relief from devastating effects of post- traumatic stress disorder( PTSD).
Besides traditional therapy and medication yoga, massage and psychotherapy ( EMDR) should be included in holistic approach.
|
Our project will have structure based on following four pillars. That will guide us in approaching this holistic project.
1.Yoga
Yoga Lead - Nikhil Kulkarni ☎ 13098681960
Approach will be mindfulness through yoga. Yoga is not just an exercise but mindfulness “being in presence”.
We will have guided yoga instructions. Girls will be guided to be in “ Now” moments. This will help rewire traumatic brain.
|
2.Meditation
Meditation Lead Dr Yash Velankar ☎ +919146364940
He is an expert in mindfulness therapy and we are delighted and fortunate to have him guide us in this complex and high demand field.
|
3.Massage
Massage Lead ☎ +919769161804
Traumatic subject loose or block sense of sensory input. It’s a protective mechanism of brain during trauma but after the event, it will block the brain from learning new information. Massage is also a lovely non-verbal way to communicate tenderness and care, and build the connection between child and caregiver.
It promotes secure attachment, releases feel-good hormones and helps our child feel loved and cherished.
Swati will look in to finding an instructor who will teach massage to girls and then it will be implemented in a regular schedule.
|
4.Psychotherapy: Cognitive Behaviour, EMDR etc
Psychotherapy Lead: Preeti and Dr Yash Velankar Will guide group of four therapist. ☎ +919561954747 Dr Aditi and Preeti
We are very fortunate and humbled to have them be part of this project, this is core of our whole process. Group therapy sessions on will be implemented first and then individual therapy.
Two groups will be made. Age 5 to 12 and second 12 and over.
|
Assessments:
We will have academic performance assessment through reading and writing scale. @919480360120 has experience in working with low socio-economic children. Very passionate, humbled, compassionate, and steady educator. She has started individual assessment of each child. She has identified some issues already of few children.
Second assessment will be their school grades. We will keep track of school grades.
psychological assessments: trauma assessments, anxiety scale will be implemented once girls feels comfortable with therapist. We will do beginning, middle and end assessments of each girl. These assessment scale will guide in future projects and to the society as a guiding force.
First staff meeting will be held by Dr Yash Velankar in person in JSF - Thane. Try to include in this ALL staff that comes in contact with girls. That includes MSW social workers, cooks, care takers, volunteers, teachers and so forth. It is very important that these element understand what we are doing and also trauma.
How often we will meet? What’s app group will meet every fifteen days once project start to keep up updated and exchange information. This will be on Zoom.
Monthly meeting will be with staff of JSF, this will be in the onsite at JSF.
Project Cordinator: Swati ☎ +919769161804
Special shout out and thanks to her. She is dedicated and hard working, passionate individual who gets things done. She is going to integral part of this project. She has been teacher her self and now doing family counseling course. Busy woman herself but energetic.
To ALL volunteers this segment and field is very trecherous and complex. There are more failures( which i donot look at it as failures but learning opportunities) than successes. Please keep expectation reasonable and avlid burnout. Success of this Project will deoend on cooperation, coordination and commnunication. So keep your mind open, and flexible.
